Her story

From Bollnäs to a major, and beyond

A girl from a small Swedish club who wrote down a big dream, chased it across an ocean, and won a major championship on the eighth extra hole.

Bollnäs

Skis or clubs

Pernilla grew up in Bollnäs, in Hälsingland in central Sweden. Her father, Jan, introduced her to golf, and she started playing at four at Bollnäs Golfklubb, the club that later made her an honorary member.

For about ten years she was also an alpine ski racer. In her teens she had to choose.

“I had a choice, alpine or golf. I’ve never regretted that it became golf.”Pernilla Lindberg (translated from Swedish)

She moved away from home to attend Sweden’s national golf high school, the program known today as the golf riksidrottsgymnasium at Filbornaskolan. Right at the start, she wrote down her goals.

“I remember writing some goals right when I got to high school about the dream scenario, which obviously would be to win a major championship and leave a mark in history.”Pernilla Lindberg, April 2018

Stillwater, Oklahoma

Oklahoma State

Pernilla crossed the Atlantic to play college golf at Oklahoma State University, where she was a three-time All-American. In 2008 she won the Espirito Santo Trophy with Sweden, and she played the Duramed Futures Tour as an amateur.

2009

Turning pro, and meeting Daniel

She graduated from Oklahoma State in 2009 and turned professional. She played half a season on the Futures Tour, then came through LPGA Q-School, sectional qualifying and the final stage, to earn her LPGA card.

She also went through Ladies European Tour pre-qualifying and final qualifying at La Manga, Spain. That is where she met Daniel Taylor.

2010

Rookie on the LPGA Tour

2010 was her LPGA Tour rookie season, and Daniel started caddying for her. She has been an LPGA member ever since. In 2016 she represented Sweden at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Late in 2017 she finished tied fourth at the CME Group Tour Championship.

“It was the first time I felt comfortable being in contention. I had use of that later in the ANA Inspiration playoff.”Pernilla Lindberg (translated from Swedish)

Eight extra holes, two days, one major

At the 2018 ANA Inspiration, now the Chevron Championship, Pernilla led by three shots after 54 holes and birdied the 72nd hole to finish at 15 under par, tied with Inbee Park and Jennifer Song. Song went out on the third extra hole. Pernilla and Park kept matching each other until darkness stopped play on Sunday evening.

On Monday morning they resumed, and on the eighth extra hole, the par-4 10th, Pernilla holed a 30-foot birdie putt. It was her first professional win, and a major. Daniel was on the bag. Then came the leap into Poppie’s Pond, with her parents and Daniel.

“I can’t believe that I can call myself a major champion.”Pernilla Lindberg, as reported by AP, April 2018

That year she was named Swedish Golfer of the Year. Looking back on the weeks before the win, when she and her coach, Patrik Jonsson, worked long days on the range:

“Hard work pays off, and always take the chance to play.”Pernilla Lindberg (translated from Swedish)

Giving back

A voice for the players

Pernilla and Daniel married in 2019. From 2019 to 2022 she served as a Player Director on the LPGA Board of Directors.

Today

Commentator, mother, past champion

Pernilla is an expert golf commentator for Viaplay. In 2026 she covered the Solheim Cup for Viaplay for the first time, an event she came close to playing.

“My biggest disappointment in my career is that I never got to play in the Solheim Cup. The closest I came was being a reserve in 2015.”Pernilla Lindberg (translated from Swedish)

She and Daniel have a daughter, Lily, and Pernilla took 2026 off after Lily’s birth. She has stepped back from a full schedule, but she remains an LPGA Tour member and returns to the Chevron Championship as a past champion.

Home is Orlando, Florida, and Sweden is never far away: she spends June to September in Stockholm, where she hosts Stockholm Pro Access, and Bollnäs is still her home club.
